According to House advisory, a single donation can help save up to four lives. However, in the winter months, stocks in Paraná's blood banks historically tend to decrease due to various factors.
The reasons for the reduction in the number of donors, according to the Assembly, include seasonal illnesses, holidays and adverse weather conditions. In addition, many people are still afraid to donate blood.
Thus, Red June amplifies the efforts of World Blood Donor Day, remembered last Saturday (14).
In general, men can make up to four donations per year (with a minimum interval of 60 days). Women can donate three times (with a minimum interval of 90 days).
Tercílio Turini, a physician and president of the Assembly's Health Committee, reiterates the request: “Blood centers follow strict criteria and only collect from those who meet the requirements,” he explains. “In general, people do not know who they are donating to, and this further reinforces the importance of individual action.”
The Legislative Assembly emphasizes that, in Paraná, a single blood bank is responsible for 95,6% of services. This is the Paraná Hematology and Hemotherapy Center (Hemepar), which supplies material to 375 hospitals.
The city of Foz do Iguaçu has a blood bank located next to the Itamed Hospital (formerly Costa Cavalcanti), in Vila A. To find out more about how to schedule a donation, click here.
