Assembly debates public policies to combat drugs and alcohol

A Legislative Assembly of the State of Paraná (ALEP) will discuss policies to combat drugs and alcohol, next Wednesday, the 18th, at 14 pm. The public hearing will have as its theme “Prevention is Care: the union between school, family and society”.

The meeting will be organized in partnership with the Depression and Drug Prevention Commission of the National Union of State Legislators and Legislatures (Unale). The objective is to debate and build initiatives within the scope of public power.

The hearing will bring together state authorities, experts and representatives of civil society. It will be an opportunity to discuss strategies for preventing the consumption of psychoactive substances and alcoholic beverages, especially among adolescents and young people.

The initiative is from state deputy Gilson de Souza (PL), who is also first vice-president of the Unale Depression and Drug Prevention Commission. He also coordinates, at ALEP, the Parliamentary Front in Support of Therapeutic Communities, Care and Drug Prevention.

“This is an urgent matter. We need to expand preventive action in schools, strengthen therapeutic communities and engage families in this fight. Only together will we be able to save lives,” says the parliamentarian.

Confirmed speakers on drugs and alcohol include:

  • Dr. Renato Figueiroa: coordinator of the State Center for Drug Policies (CEPSD) of the State Secretariat for Public Security of Paraná and vice-president of the State Council for Public Policies on Drugs. He is a former full representative of the states on the National Council on Drugs (Conad — 2021/2022), has a postgraduate degree in Constitutional Law from the Bauru Law School and is a specialist in Public Security from the Paraná Civil Police Higher School.
  • Thiago Massolin: president of Compacta — Associated Therapeutic Communities of Brazil and director of Confenact — National Confederation of Therapeutic Communities. A psychologist and theologian, he specializes in chemical dependency with an emphasis on prevention and management of therapeutic communities. He also serves as a public policy advisor for Cruz Azul in Brazil, a full advisor for Conesd and executive director of Crenvi — Casa de Recuperação Nova Vida, in Curitiba (PR).
  • Delvana Lucia de Oliveira: pedagogue and master in Educational Public Policies from the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG). She is a pedagogical technician at the State Secretariat of Education of Paraná (Seed/PR), with a strong presence in teacher training and in the promotion of inclusive, equitable and quality education. She is also part of the MPT na Escola project and is a full councilor of the State Council of Social Assistance (CEAS/PR), being recognized for her commitment to the rights of children and adolescents and the articulation between education and public policies.
