The proposal, authored by state deputy Luciana Rafagnin (PT), proposes that – for every two proofs of delivery of breast milk donations to the public network – state employees receive a paid day off after the end of maternity leave.

According to the author, the initiative aims to increase the stocks available to hospitals and to value the solidarity gesture of donors. The basic text stipulates a maximum of two days of paid leave per month.

“Breast milk is essential for all newborns, but especially for those who are hospitalized and cannot be breastfed,” argues Luciana.

According to the ALEP press office, one liter of human milk can feed up to ten newborns per day. Currently, the country is facing a deficit in collection. On average, milk banks supply around 55% of the required volume.

“If approved, the project will join the list of policies that seek to strengthen the breastfeeding support network in Paraná,” describes the deputy.
