Project approved by Legislative Assembly of Paraná (ALEP) prioritizes attention to women's health during menopause. The matter is now awaiting government approval to come into effect throughout the state.

The goal is to strengthen actions aimed at the period of physiological transition between the female reproductive and non-reproductive phases. During this phase, hormonal changes are intense and impact physical, mental and emotional health.

The project includes specific initiatives for the period that includes menopause, which can start early, even before the age of 30. Today, there are several groups that are mobilizing in search of comprehensive and continuous care.

Women who experience menopause present physical and vasomotor symptoms, as well as urogenital, bone, psychological and social changes. The impact is direct on quality of life, experts emphasize.

Hormonal changes during menopause are associated with the development of several conditions, including:

The project includes health education and actions to inform, for example, about the indications and contraindications of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It also seeks to ensure physical and mental health care for people in menopause through various measures.

These proposed actions involve the preparation of a detailed clinical assessment, with attention to personal, family and dietary history, physical activity and sexual life — in addition to carrying out tests considered essential, such as hormone levels, among others.
