Chinese New Year will be celebrated this Sunday, 16th, at Praça da Paz

Free programming includes music, dance and martial arts demonstrations

Foz do Iguaçu will host yet another Chinese New Year celebration. The “Chinese New Year Celebration Show” will be held this Sunday, the 16th, at Praça da Paz, starting at 9 am, with music, dance and martial arts performances, highlighting the richness of Chinese culture.

With a diverse program, the event will feature more than 20 attractions, including performances by the Banda Ibrachina Musical Project and the Traditional Chinese Music Group.

There will also be performances martial arts with the Body, Mind and Soul School, in addition to the exhibition of traditional instruments such as the kite, one of the oldest in China, approximately two thousand years old, and the guzheng, a Chinese zither with about 26 strings and movable bridges.

Year of the Snake is conducive to change

Considered one of the most important celebrations in Chinese culture, the Chinese New Year follows the lunar calendar, organized into 12-year cycles, each represented by an animal from the Chinese zodiac.

This year will be the year of the Wood Snake, which brings meanings of renewal, growth and vitality. According to tradition, the period is propitious for changes, personal development and strengthening of well-being.

For the president of the Brazil-China Sociocultural Institute (Ibrachina), Thomas Law, the Chinese New Year is an important moment to promote Chinese culture and strengthen ties between Brazil and China.

“And, once again, Foz do Iguaçu, with its diversity and cultural integration, is the ideal setting for this great celebration,” he highlights.

Free and open to the public, the event is promoted by the Brazil-China Sociocultural Institute (Ibrachina) in partnership with the Sino-Brazilian Joint Association of Iguaçu (ACSBI), Government of the State of Paraná, City Hall of Foz do Iguaçu, Chinese Embassy in Brazil, Chinese Consulate in São Paulo and Cultural Foundation of Foz do Iguaçu.

It also has support from Sanepar, the Traditional Chinese Music Group and Viale Hotéis.

The border between Foz do Iguaçu and Ciudad del Este is home to a significant Chinese colony. According to data from the Federal Police, at the end of 2023, around 156 people were living in the city. Many of them came from Taiwan.
