According to Itaipu, the truck will leave the plant's control barrier at around 7 am. The movement through the urban perimeter is slow and is expected to be completed by 14 pm.

The route through Foz do Iguaçu includes Tancredo Neves Avenue (from the barrier to the BR-277 viaduct) and JK Avenue, as well as José Maria de Brito and Paraná avenues.

The detour via José Maria de Brito and Paraná, instead of direct access to the BR, may seem strange to drivers of small vehicles. However, the maneuver is carried out due to the length of the truck, which requires wider angles for curves.

“The crossing of urban roads, which is the sole responsibility of the contracted company, is scheduled to be completed by 14 pm and has been approved by Foztrans,” Itaipu reports. Foztrans is the Transport and Traffic Institute of Foz do Iguaçu.

“In addition, it will be supported by Foztrans itself and other entities such as Copel, in urban sections, and the Federal Highway Police, in highway sections”, adds the binational company.

History in Foz do Iguaçu

The initial request is to redouble attention on the roads passing through Foz do Iguaçu during the morning period. According to Itaipu, in case of rescheduling the activity or change in the route, there will be a new notice to the population.

The transit of large trucks, transporting parts of the binational hydroelectric plant, was common in Foz do Iguaçu between 1975 and 1991, during the period of construction of the dam and assembly of the production and transmission structures.

In the early 2000s, a new batch of parts arrived in the city for the two additional turbines. Tancredo Neves Avenue, which provides access to the plant, has a special layout to allow the parts to circulate, with gentle curves and reinforced asphalt.
