At the end of November, the initiative was awarded in the Innovation, Technology and Sustainability category, during the Brazilian Congress of Social Housing and Public Housing Agents, promoted by the Habita Brasil Institute.
The 21 de Agosto Award, granted by the entity, is considered the main award in the area of housing projects throughout the country.
How does the Moradias project work?
Launched at the end of 2023, the Moradias project foresees the construction of 254 homes for the current residents of Vila Brás, in the North Region of Foz do Iguaçu.
According to Itaipu Parquetec, the houses will follow two models (one of them with accessibility) and will be built with an industrialized wood system, reducing carbon emissions throughout the entire project.
The Moradias project homes will be built in three locations, located within a maximum radius of 1,5 kilometers of Vila Brás. Two of the plots of land were donated by the city government (for 52 and 60 homes), while the third (for 142 homes) was handed over by the federal government.
Positive impact on the population
“More than building houses, we are creating possibilities for a renewed life for the families of Vila Brás”, summarizes the director of Technologies at Itaipu Parquetec, Alexandre Leite, quoted by the press office.
“This award symbolizes the transformative impact that technology and sustainability can have in combating inequalities, while strengthening Itaipu Parquetec’s commitment to a fairer and more sustainable future,” he says.
Itaipu’s administrative director, Iggor Gomes Rocha, says that the goal is for the Moradias project “to inspire and be replicated, given the advantages it presents. The award can therefore be an accelerator in this intention to present the project to the country.”
