The income of tourists who come to Foz do Iguaçu is reasonably high, and half of the visitors have higher education and are between 32 and 50 years old. During the high season in January, the average stay is close to five days.

This is data brought by the tourism channel of H2FOZ, obtained from the survey to characterize the municipality's tourist demand, carried out in partnership with local public institutions. The collection took place between December 2024 and January 2025.

The average monthly family income of tourists in Foz do Iguaçu is R$20,6 thousand; R$9,5 thousand is the income per capita. How does he spend his money on his trip to the Land of the Falls? The first two items are shopping in Paraguay and accommodation, the survey reveals.

Imports in Ciudad del Este represent an average expenditure of R$1.590, followed by accommodation, R$1.275, and shopping in Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, R$639. Then come tourist attractions, food and transport.

Visitors spend an average of R$276 on Foz do Iguaçu's stores, demonstrating the potential for growth. This is if integration between the retail and tourism sectors advances and if the city as a whole becomes more attractive. How? The recipe, the mantra goes, is for the government to make it better for residents first.

According to most visitors, Foz do Iguaçu is already a “pet destination”, a place to call their own. Six out of ten tourists have been to the city before, and 33% have enjoyed its diverse attractions more than four times.

Vacations and leisure are the reason for travel for 72%, taken by families, couples and groups of friends (79%). The main means of transport are buses and planes, both with a percentage of 34%. Coming by car is equivalent to 19% of arrivals.

It is worth noting that, although air travel accounts for about a third of the means used by tourists, 11% of the total number of respondents indicated the lack of flight availability as an impediment to returning to Foz do Iguaçu. Prices charged at the destination are the first factor.

Among the attractions visited, there were no surprises, with Iguaçu Falls, Marco das Três Fronteiras, Parque das Aves and Itaipu Tourist Complex leading the preferences, according to the study. Undertaken in three phases, between the end of last year and the beginning of 2025, the research by the Municipal Department of Tourism and Itaipu Parquetec is an x-ray with subsidies for companies and governments.

Information is vital to understanding the scenario and is the compass for new goals. A possible and necessary challenge is to capture what this and other data have to teach so that Foz do Iguaçu can become a systematically tourist city.
