Maria da penha
The Maria da Penha Center works especially in the family and domestic sphere, carrying out actions to combat gender-based violence. Its objective is to promote shelter and free legal assistance for women in situations of violence, ensuring access to justice and the protection of their rights.
The program also maintains socio-educational initiatives, social mobilization and strengthening of the protection network, for the effective enforcement of the Maria da Penha Law. One focus of attention is article 27 of the law, which deals with the State's responsibility to ensure specialized care for women who are victims of violence.
At universities, the teams bring together professors, lawyers, psychologists and students from the courses involved. Qualified legal assistance is guaranteed for the women assisted by the program.
