According to Federal Highway Police (PRF), at around 7:50 am, two motorcycles collided at the top of the road that connects Foz do Iguaçu to Ciudad del Este.
At the time of the crash, there was heavy traffic on the Friendship Bridge, made worse by the long Corpus Christi holiday on the Brazilian side.
According to the PRF, the driver of one of the motorcycles, a Paraguayan national, needed assistance from the SIATE team.
The victim's health status is not included in the information distributed to the press by the PRF, which directed traffic to allow the ambulance access to the Ponte da Amizade.
However, the note states that the motorcyclist needed to be referred to the Padre Germano Lauck Municipal Hospital, in Foz do Iguaçu, for continued care.
Unfortunately, motorcycle accidents occur frequently at the top of the Friendship Bridge. The causes include the large number of motorcycles, the use of narrow corridors and, in many cases, reckless maneuvers.
One of the most serious cases occurred in November 2024, when a collision between two motorcycles took the life of a Brazilian medical student. To check out what the portal H2FOZ reported, at the time, click here.
The opening of the Integration Bridge (no date yet set) will help reduce traffic risks on the Friendship Bridge. This is because truck traffic will now take place on the new road, a measure that will reduce traffic congestion at the border.
