During routine monitoring, employees became suspicious of two checked bags that appeared to be overweight for their size. With the scanner, it was possible to observe several cell phones.
The owner's presence was requested at the RFB office to open the luggage, but the woman did not appear. Later, the airline reported that the passenger did not show up for boarding and had left the airport.
“The passenger was identified as a resident of Santa Terezinha de Itaipu, who was going to board a flight to Guarulhos, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo,” reported the RFB. The luggage was opened and the seized products were taken to customs.
“Smuggling, the practice of bringing in or out goods without paying due taxes, and smuggling, which involves the illegal import or export of products, harm tax collection,” the Federal Revenue Service stressed. “And they distort competition in the market, negatively affecting the economy.”
