The city government intends to promote income through handicrafts in Foz do Iguaçu. The project's target audience is people in social vulnerability, mainly Bolsa Família beneficiaries.

The municipal departments of Social Welfare and Tourism are working together to develop the proposal. The initiative was called the Intersectoral Program for Professional Qualification in Souvenirs for Bolsa Família Beneficiaries.

The proposal consists of training in artisanal techniques with the cultural identity of Foz do Iguaçu. The intention is to create conditions for the socioeconomic development of families in situations of social vulnerability.

Income with crafts

The project that is being designed includes practical workshops, technical support and support for the marketing of products at tourist attractions and cultural events in the city. Selling handicrafts, in turn, is usually the biggest challenge for producers.

The intention is to provide training in community, cultural and social service spaces. The content includes everything from craft and manual techniques, such as embroidery, ceramics and painting, to information on pricing and visual identity.

“The creation of a seal with local identity for the products produced is also planned”, highlights the prefecture. And the structuring of permanent sales channels at fairs, tourist service centers and collaborative sales points.

In the current phase, the Social Assistance Secretariat is evaluating mechanisms to encourage regular participation in the program and the profile of families to be prioritized.

Income generation and inclusion, says the city government, aim to strengthen the social protection network. They also aim to “build sustainable alternatives to overcome poverty and promote citizenship.”
