Motorcycles up to 170cc no longer pay IPVA

The law is in force and should benefit more than 700 owners of two-wheeled vehicles; today, the average value is R$474.

It's the law: motorcycles with up to 170cc will no longer be subject to IPVA (Motor Vehicle Property Tax) in Paraná. The measure should benefit 732 motorcycle owners.

A Law No. 22.262 was sanctioned by Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior (PSD). The annual bill will be excluded from the motorcyclists' budget starting next month, in January 2025.

The tax exemption meets one of the demands of motorcycle couriers and delivery drivers, who help to boost the economy. “These are professionals who generate jobs and income, helping our state to grow,” said Ratinho Junior.

Exempt motorcycles

The State Finance Department (Sefa) estimates that the exemption will benefit approximately 77% of the entire taxable motorcycle fleet in Paraná. The average tax charged to these owners is R$474.

The funds, which will no longer be channeled into taxes, will strengthen the economy of Paraná. The money that would be used for motorcycle IPVA will be used to buy materials, food, clothing and other items for families.

Other exemptions

The new law also exempts buses, minibuses and trucks powered exclusively by natural gas from IPVA – this also includes biomethane. “The idea is to encourage owners to adopt more sustainable alternatives,” explains the government. The exemption also covers hydrogen vehicles. The exemptions, in these two cases, are valid until December 31, 2027.
