The delivery ceremony took place in the Production Building auditorium, with the presence of directors and employees of the binational company and representatives of IEEE.
According to the IEEE, the recognition of the hydroelectric plant is based on Itaipu's contribution to the development of humanity. Currently, the plant holds the world record for energy production, recognized by the book Guinness.
Alberto Sanchez, president of IEEE Region 9 (which covers Latin America and the Caribbean), highlighted the positive impact not only for Brazilians and Paraguayans, but for the planet.
“In its 41 years of operation, Itaipu has prevented the emission of one hundred million tons of carbon into the atmosphere, which represents an enormous benefit for the world,” he said.
Renato Sacramento, Brazilian technical director, highlighted that the recognition increases the need for the company to apply excellent practices.
“It is an award for the historic work of Brazilians and Paraguayans who built this company and are now facing new challenges, such as the technological update of the hydroelectric plant,” he mentioned.
