Victorious in a election unlikely against the then candidate supported by the city hall, João Morales is concluding his two-year term as president of the City Council. He took stock of his work as head of the Legislative Assembly and his plans for the future, on the Marco Zero program, produced by H2FOZ e Radio Club 100,9.

The councilor presented what he considers to have been advances, evaluated the institutional performance of the House of Laws and spoke about the political relationship between the board of directors and Mayor Chico Brasileiro (PSD). “It boiled when it needed to boil.” This is how João Morales sums up the conflicts with the Executive, adding that Mayor Chico Brasileiro was “disrespectful” to the council members on several occasions, especially when he was being asked to make improvements to the city or when he was asked to make demands from public servants. He stated that he was never an obstacle to projects of interest to the population.

“We showed that this was not a presidency of continuity, of their base, but that we would have autonomy,” he declared. “But there was also dialogue and listening on the part of the mayor. We presented our demands and suggestions, many of them to improve matters that were being discussed,” stressed João Morales.

In his assessment, João Morales mentioned that the Chamber has become closer to the population, with official itinerant sessions in the neighborhoods. He pointed out that, under his management, the Legislature is digitizing documentation, which generates efficiency in procedures and savings for the public coffers. And he highlighted the adoption of teleworking, which has reduced the number of public servants absent from work.

The councilman explained areas in which the Legislative Assembly has begun to act more intensively, such as the animal cause, with several projects approved. He also mentioned the commitment to the federalization of the Municipal Hospital, criticizing the administration for extending the deadline for procedures, which brings uncertainty to professionals. “They are working without any certainty about what will happen,” he said.

New Chamber headquarters

In the interview, João Morales spoke about the project to build the headquarters of the City Council of Foz do Iguaçu, a proposal he launched as soon as he took office. According to him, an institution has been hired to hold a public competition to choose the best project.

“The funds have already been secured, at least part of the money for construction. I will leave it right in front of the next president,” said João Morales. According to him, the next board of directors should hold the competition and choose the construction project.
