IDEB 2025

Carmo Braz de Oliveira – OPINION

According to Inep (Brazil, 2021) “The Basic Education Development Index (Ideb) was created in 2007 and brings together, in a single indicator, the results of two equally important concepts for the quality of education: school flow and average performance in assessments. The Ideb is calculated based on data on school approval, obtained in School Census, and performance averages in Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb)."

It is, therefore, an important instrument for perceiving the quality of the teaching-learning process in schools, combining flow and merit. This understanding stimulates a diversity of projects and actions by municipal management and schools so that the desired index for the period is achieved.

Thus, as in every year and notably more intensely in the years in which the Prova Brasil took place, in this, the 2025 edition, we will see more reinforcement classes, internal and external evaluations, specific activities according to the difficulty presented, support from a multidisciplinary team, permanent contact with families, among other actions are developed, with the objective of preparing students in the best possible way to achieve a greater degree of data qualification.

Foz do Iguaçu has been a reference for the country, with rates that far exceed the national average, even placing some schools in the top positions of the national ranking and the trend is growing, given that the formation of teams and the choice of directors and coordinators to make up the new management at the Municipal Department of Education has been guided by eminently technical criteria, valuing the good professionals in the network.

It is therefore credible that the municipal administration will routinely provide adequate guidance and support to teachers, coordinators, directors and other employees, prioritizing the appreciation of everyone and the quality of the process, professional development, harmonious interpersonal relationships, etc., because the group that makes up education (and I refer to everyone working in schools and CMEIs, as well as in SMED), deserves not only an award for the increasing positive index in children's learning, but all the awards for their competence, disposition, will and belief that, as Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world." So be it!
