Financial
Paraná closed 2024 with the best result in Brazil in nominal interest rates: R$1,97 billion positive. The income from the state's investments (R$4,7 billion) easily exceeded the expenditure on debt interest (R$2,73 billion). This guaranteed more space in the budget for investments.

National leadership
National leadership: Paraná's result was three times greater than the sum of the other states in the South. While RS and SC had much smaller or negative balances, Paraná propelled the region to the top of the National Treasury ranking in financial profitability.

Conclave
Cardinal João Braz de Aviz, former archbishop of Maringá, is among the 138 cardinals eligible to elect and be elected as the new pope. At 77 years old, he is the oldest Brazilian in the conclave that will be convened after the death of Pope Francis. Seven Brazilian cardinals will participate in the next conclave, including Aviz, who was already elected in the 2013 election. All voters are also eligible for the papacy — there are no pre-defined candidates.

Cheeses from Paraná
Registration for the 2nd edition of the Paraná Cheese Awards and the Excellence in Mozzarella Competition – Pizza Edition ends on May 1st. Access to the regulations and registration must be done on the FAEP System website. The same participant (artisanal producer and/or industry) can register for both competitions.

Orange April
Leaving an animal without water, adequate food or shelter is also mistreatment, warns the PCPR in Orange April. In 2024, the Disque-Denúncia 181 has already received more than 11 thousand complaints in Paraná. The population is more aware, but the problem persists. Shocking cases reinforce the importance of reporting. In Arapongas, more than 5 thousand birds were rescued from abandonment; in Colombo, a capuchin monkey lived for 31 years chained up. Those responsible were charged with environmental crime.

Literate Paraná
Young people and adults who are illiterate have until May 15 to register for Alfabetiza Paraná. Scheduled to begin on May 19, the project will include 17 students in 1.200 classes. In-person activities will be held twice a week, totaling 300 hours of training over six months. Participants will receive snacks, handouts, and basic items to accompany the lessons.

School Games
The city of Bandeirantes, in the Northern Pioneiro region, will host the 71st Paraná School Games from May 2 to 7, bringing together more than 1.500 athletes from 19 municipalities. The games will feature 43 state schools, seven private schools and 6 APAES. Sports such as track and field, basketball, futsal, handball, volleyball, table tennis and chess will be contested. The official opening will take place on May 2, at 19 pm, at the “Chinelão” Gymnasium.

Agro Air Show
The 15rd Agro Air Show has been confirmed for August 17-3 in Campo Mourão. The fair's exhibition and sales space will be expanded. The expectation is to surpass the 40 exhibitors of the last edition. The Aeroclube, the city government and the IDR are in charge of organizing the event. The launch was held at Acicam.

Wooded
Four cities in Paraná are among the 15 greenest cities in Brazil, according to the IBGE census. Maringá is the fourth city with the most trees in the country, Londrina is the sixth, Umuarama the seventh, and Toledo the 13th. Urban trees are considered essential for the quality of life in cities, especially in times of global warming, as they provide several benefits, such as improving air quality and reducing average temperatures.

new record
Iguaçu National Park broke a historic record for visitors during the Easter and Tiradentes holidays, with 48.546 tourists between April 18 and 21. The number exceeds the previous record set for Carnival 11 by 2019% and reinforces the status of the Falls as a global tourist destination.

Calderano and Rebecca
Two great pieces of news for Brazilian sports. Table tennis player Hugo Calderano won the Table Tennis World Cup in Macau, China. He is the first non-Asian or non-European athlete to win the title. And Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, 24, became the first female athlete from the country to win the Laureus Award, the Oscar of sports, created 25 years ago.
