The Iguazu Falls are among the finalists for the 2025 World Travel Awards, competing for the title of South America’s Leading Tourist Attraction. The World Wonder of Nature is competing with destinations such as Machu Picchu and Christ the Redeemer. The award is considered the “Oscar of World Tourism”.
Cheeses from Paraná
The second edition of the Paraná Cheese Awards, which will take place on May 29 and 30 at the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, has already broken a record with 515 cheese entries. The event celebrates the excellence of the state's cheese production, with support from IDR-Paraná and other institutions. Paraná is the second largest milk producer in Brazil, with growing prominence in the cheese sector.
Popular course
UEPG has opened registration for its free Popular Course, aimed at students from the public school system who are socially vulnerable. Classes begin on June 2 and prepare students for university entrance exams and the PSS. The project also offers teaching experience to undergraduate students at the university.
Penal decentralization
Governor Ratinho Júnior proposed, in a lecture at Secovi-SP, that states should have autonomy to create their own criminal laws. The measure would require a constitutional amendment, transferring part of the criminal jurisdiction of the Union to the states. According to him, this would allow for harsher punishments and faster responses to crime.

Ratinho Júnior stated that penal decentralization would have the support of society and the state legislature. As an example, he cited harsher penalties for crimes such as femicide and cell phone theft. For the governor, the problem in Brazil is not prison, but the lenient punishment of criminals.
Expoingá 2025
The Government of Paraná is participating in Expoingá 2025, in Maringá, with actions focused on innovation, sustainability and safety in the field. The fair will take place from May 8 to 18 and is expecting more than 500 thousand visitors. The event highlights the theme “Agro Conecta”, promoting the strengthening of agribusiness.
Expoingá 2025 II
The government's attractions at Expoingá include Fazendinha, projects by Sanepar, Copel, Adapar and state universities. Education, tourism and technology programs will also be presented. The participation reinforces the integration between the countryside and the city and encourages sustainable rural development.
Honorary Citizen
The Legislative Assembly of Paraná approved the title of Meritorious Citizen for ophthalmologist Artur José Schmitt, recognized for his contribution to eye health and the training of new professionals. In another project, the name Orlando Antoniolli was proposed for the overpass at the intersection of Avenida Brasil and BR-376, in Sarandi, in recognition of the social and community legacy of the pioneer.

Eight bets from Paraná got five numbers right in the Mega-Sena draw on Tuesday (6) and each one will take home R$33.331,53. No player got all six numbers right, and the accumulated prize could reach R$38 million on Thursday (8). Seven bets from Cascavel got four numbers right and will receive R$832,15.
More chairs
The Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that increases the number of federal deputies to 531 from 2027. The text prevents the loss of seats from states, such as the Northeast, and will be analyzed by the Senate. The change responds to the Supreme Court's decision and the population growth recorded by the Census.
And in Paraná?
With the approval of the new complementary law that increases the number of parliamentarians, Paraná could gain an additional seat in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Legislative Assembly. As a result, the state's federal bench would increase from 30 to 31 deputies, while the number of seats in the Legislative Assembly would increase from 54 to 55.
