Prof. José Afonso de Oliveira – OPINION

Our Federal University for Latin American Integration, in its few years of existence, has already shown what it has come to do by training young people to work throughout our struggling Latin America.

Through Unila, we are training generations of top professionals – who, upon returning to their countries of origin, will implement highly relevant and much-needed economic and social development policies.

Unila was born from a desire to have greater and better insertion throughout Latin America, and the path is that of scientific and technological development that we are experiencing.

Our young people will be at the forefront of the great transformations that are already taking place and that, in the near future, will be even more important and profound.

With several undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including master's and doctorate degrees, we are advancing knowledge throughout the scientific and technological research sector.

With students from various Latin American countries and also from Brazil, all studying full-time at the university, we are preparing these young people for the present and the near future.

For our city, Unila represents an enormous source of resources from the federal government through its annual budget. Furthermore, by hiring employees at various levels, in addition to teachers and administrators, we have a new, highly qualified work front for our city and region.

Several studies are currently being carried out with the aim of finalizing the university building, the last work of the great Oscar Niemeyer. This will allow for the maintenance and significant improvement of its activities, as its buildings are of excellent functionality and quality.

There is a very concrete and real possibility that, still this year, we will have the bidding process for the completion of the main building and its immediate operation.

It is also worth remembering that in Paraná we have the Federal University of Paraná and now our Unila as a federal unit, which greatly expands the conditions for our students.

Our local society must engage in Unila's struggle, because this is a very important and significant milestone for our future, which is already beginning to be built.
