Prof. José Afonso de Oliveira – OPINION
Thinking about security in Foz do Iguaçu means thinking about public policies that are efficient in priority areas such as housing, education, full employment policies, in short, policies that allow all citizens to have a dignified and useful life in the city.
Of course, police action is fundamental, but we cannot restrict ourselves to it when we think about security policies. It is a set of actions that result in greater security for all city inhabitants. Clearly, police action is important in combating crime and responding to emergency situations involving any citizen.
But having all our young people and children in schools is very important, both now and in the near future, so that there can be a very significant improvement in people's lives.
Thinking about a policy for building affordable housing that serves workers and all people in situations of extreme poverty, whether they live on the streets or in slums, is essential, because without a home of their own it is very difficult to achieve a real improvement in living conditions.
It is from these basic requirements that we can build a broader policy aimed at addressing fundamental issues for all people in the city.
This means that people in better living conditions will also benefit, because as violence can be contained and reduced, we will all have better living conditions.
Thinking about the urban public transport system is also part of this safety issue, because this way workers, students and other users are able to comply with schedules and with this the life of a student or worker will be much more productive and improved for everyone.
All of this must be permeated by public awareness campaigns, as well as guidance for all citizens, because this way they will become aware of their place in the city.
This is a joint effort by all citizens of Foz do Iguaçu, a tourist city that will be marked by an excellent way of life for everyone, without distinction.
