Prof. José Afonso de Oliveira – OPINION
This is one of the oldest schools in Foz do Iguaçu. Its name pays homage to the Argentine general who led the Triple Alliance at the beginning of the Paraguayan War.
Now, overnight, the school simply turned into civic-military* and began to adopt this new nomenclature [Editor's note: 5th Military Police College]. No one was invited to this transformation, which profoundly affects the social culture of our city.
* Errata: Unlike the initial quote from the author of the text, the college did not adopt the civic-military model. The institution was transformed by the Government of Paraná into the 5th Military Police College.
Therefore, returning to the official and traditional nomenclature is a duty of deep respect for this city and its inhabitants.
We have huge generations of former students who studied at this school, which now simply no longer exists, as what exists has nothing to do with the past of Mitre, as it is called by the city's population.
Let's make Colégio Estadual Bartolomeu Mitre what it once was in a memorable past, a school that produces good citizens and excellent professionals in various segments of our society.
Today, more than ever, it is necessary to preserve everything that refers to a society's educational past, because it is there that the men and women who shaped today's society were forged – which, from now on, will constitute the new society that we all desire.
Provide this school with an educational structure that allows for the intensive use in the classroom and outside of it of all technological computer equipment already on the market and available.
Without this, our education remains tied to the past and, worse, does not advance. Today, computers are widely used in all sectors and the same should happen in our schools. Students will learn how to use computer equipment for their learning.
This necessary and useful experience can begin to be carried out in our city precisely by the Bartolomeu Mitre State School, thinking about not simply placing computer equipment in schools, as these exist in students' homes and everywhere else.
But teaching its best and good use so that we can have the advancement of knowledge, science and technology, so necessary for today's societies.

Speaking of memory, what would be the body responsible for it in the city? I respect the professor's opinion but I didn't see it.
No one is questioning the creation of the military school, campaigning for people to join the idea or refusing to enroll their children. On the contrary, there is a waiting list, and we do not see any complaints to the point of questioning its existence. If there is no demand, there is no supply. There are immeasurable spaces and other assets in the city, some of which are urgently needed and require immediate action by the authorities.
