Prof. José Afonso de Oliveira – OPINION

The city of Foz do Iguaçu is characterized by having very tree-lined streets and avenues. This is of enchanting beauty, in addition to being very good for the existence of a milder climate for all its residents.

Even so, it is necessary to maintain all this afforestation by replacing very old trees, or those that have already fallen in the storms, with younger trees. Something along these lines can already be seen on Paraná Avenue, where there are already trees planted in between older trees.

The recent landscaping of Avenida JK is excellent for people to stroll, walk and rest, as everything was done exactly with that in mind.

After all, our city is located between the Paraná and Iguaçu rivers, which seem to embrace the city at their mouths. And we also have the large Itaipu lake, which ends up generating a certain humidity in the air, given the evaporation that occurs in both the rivers and the lake, which is very good for the health of the residents.

But we also have the largest natural reserve in the Southern Region of Brazil, the Iguaçu National Park, with its imposing and beautiful Iguaçu Falls. This park is of great importance because it contains remains of the Atlantic Forest, which is present throughout the Atlantic coastal region, extending inland, where today we have the Iguaçu National Park.

There is a unique situation here, as the area of the Iguaçu National Park goes beyond our borders, entering Argentine territory and also forming a national park.

All of this allows us to have a very interesting climate in the city, with very hot summers, torrential rains and a winter with quite cold weather and light rains, which last for a few days. In between, both in autumn, which we are in now, and in spring, the climate is much milder, and there is less rain and less volume.

At this time, when the world is discussing environmental issues, we have the privilege of living practically within nature and benefiting enormously from it, both in our streets and avenues and in the waters that are within our territorial limits.
