Prof. José Afonso de Oliveira – OPINION
What a brilliant idea to pay tribute to all those who built the largest hydroelectric plant in the world at the time. People who traveled all over Brazil, building dams and here in Foz do Iguaçu worked hard, without holidays or weekends, day and night, to build Itaipu in just one decade.
Many, unfortunately, ended up losing their lives in this work, but the vast majority, with joy and delight, worked hard and now, 50 years later, they are honored in a very creative, beautiful and interesting way for people.
This newly opened public market will become a meeting point for the city's population and a tourist attraction for all our visitors. It may seem strange for a market to be a tourist attraction, but one of the great tourist attractions in São Paulo is precisely its municipal market.
Here, fruit and vegetable products will be sold, generating income for small producers, which will enable real improvements in living conditions. Entire families will benefit.
In addition to these products, we will also offer handicrafts, which will also generate small-scale production to support many families.
But let's go further, the space will also be used to present the most diverse cultural groups, contributing to the development of the city's identity and the coexistence of all its inhabitants in a happy, harmonious and very intense way of creating new social relationships.
Performances by musical groups always attract people to this new space, which is already fully operational. The long-awaited inauguration of the Barrageiro Market, built with care and affection, in a fully air-conditioned environment to face the harsh climate of our city, is something unprecedented, but greatly needed. The city really needs new spaces that can be used for various activities, always generating a better standard of social life.
Congratulations to the creators and to all those who made its implementation and inauguration possible. Now let's move on, because there is much to do.
