In the new edition of the É da Vida section, environmentalist Francisco Amarilla traveled along one of the stretches of the Boicy River, in the Maracanã neighborhood.
The images show the beauty of the riverbed and the vegetation on the banks, but reveal the lack of care for one of the city's water assets.
“It’s sad to say the situation our river is in. We have foam here, sewage falling down,” Amarilla points out, citing the existence of irregular connections that dump sewage into the Boicy.
According to the presenter, there is also the problem of a lack of awareness among residents of the areas crossed by the river. Amarilla points to the large amount of garbage (mainly plastic) as one of the problems in the micro basin.
Over the last few municipal governments, the Boicy River has received several projects to clean up the city and convert it into an urban park. The most recent initiative was funded by an international entity, but it never came to fruition.
The Boicy River (also spelled as M'boicy) has several sources in Foz do Iguaçu, in regions such as Jardim Canadá and Portal da Foz. What they have in common is the degradation of the surrounding areas.
The mouth is located on the Paraná River, in the section between the central area of the city and the Cataratas Iate Clube.
