Fatal complications after a scheduled surgery prematurely cut short the life of municipal school teacher Viviane Jara, aged 39. President of the union for the category, Sinprefi, and a leading figure among young union leaders, she passed away on February 26, 2023.

The family and the union, from the very beginning, alleged medical error and sought justice. At the time, André Di Buriasco, who was the director of the Municipal Hospital, where the teacher was admitted to have her uterus removed, stated that the surgeon responsible was removed from the staff.
“The Municipal Hospital and the city hall have already been convicted, in the first instance, in an action for compensation for damages due to medical error, but they appealed the decision”, informed Sinprefi, in content that remembers the Iguaçu civil servant.
Medical error
According to the union, the hospital opened an internal investigation to determine responsibility. However, the judge in the case dismissed this document as evidence. This is because the judge considered the documentation presented and the medical records sufficient to understand that there was a medical error, the union said.
The case was also forwarded to the Regional Medical Council and the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Viviane's mother, Doraci Jara, reports that the indignation only increases due to her absence. "She was a very attentive girl with the house and everything. She will not return, but if justice is served, knowing that justice exists, it is already a relief," she explained.

With a degree in Pedagogy from the State University of Western Paraná (Unioeste/Foz), Viviane Jara Benitez was elected to preside over Sinprefi in 2022, on a ticket that received 90% approval. As a union leader, she stood out for her coherent, transparent and combative stance. A teacher, she defended public schools as a right of the population and an instrument for the advancement of society.
Shortly before he passed away, he was leading the group to prevent the approval of the pension reform, a project authored by former mayor Chico Brasileiro (PSD), which would be put to a vote on February 28. “We have made little progress in the negotiations. This is the time to fight to defend the right to retirement,” he called on his social media on February 15, 2023.
