A Federal Police (PF) dismantled a network of drug mules operating at the airport in Foz do Iguaçu. The international drug trafficking scheme brought from Paraguay used the terminal, among others, to send marijuana and cocaine to several states in the country.

The second phase of the operation called Malas & Mulas was launched this Friday, the 16th. Arrest and search and seizure warrants were served in Foz do Iguaçu and in São Luís, in Maranhão.

“Mules” is the pejorative term given by drug traffickers to people who transport drugs on their bodies or in their luggage, often vulnerable people. At this stage, the operation identified several people responsible for sending volumes of narcotics.

Thus, the PF teams took to the streets to serve the warrants, issued by the Federal Court in Foz do Iguaçu.

“Mule” network

The federal agents released details and evidence collected during the investigation. Videos, for example, indicate the movements of one of the people arrested in flagrante delicto today during the operation at the airport in Foz do Iguaçu.

One of the videos released to the press, the PF says, is from the moment the accused person left. “Already with two suitcases, taking a bus to board at Foz Airport,” it explained. In another video, the institution claims to be the scene of the incident at the Iguaçu terminal, with the support of police sniffer dogs.

Balance

The first report from Malas & Mulas shows the seizure of half a ton of drugs. In addition, more than a dozen people involved in the criminal scheme of transporting drugs via Paraguay were arrested.
