'Abseiling' of imported goods at the Friendship Bridge leads to two arrests at the border

Accused of “abseiling” imported goods from the Ponte Internacional da Amizade, on the border between Brazil and Paraguay, two men were arrested this Thursday, the 7th. R$100 in goods were seized, which were being thrown from the top of the road in Foz do Iguaçu.

The practice of “rappelling” is equivalent to throwing volumes of products towards the base of the bridge, using ropes. Routine inspection of the vehicle and pedestrian entrance lanes, at the binational crossing, led the teams to the accused.

Federal police, employees of the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service (RFB) and members of the National Force (FN) were involved in the raid in the early hours of the morning. The men arrested in the area of ​​the Friendship Bridge customs are Paraguayans.

During the approach, five volumes of goods were intercepted, including, among others:

  • tablets;
  • batteries;
  • odorizers;
  • other electronic products.

The two people arrested were taken to the Federal Police Station in Foz do Iguaçu – where officers confirmed that one of them was a minor. “In light of this, the adult Paraguayan was arrested in flagrante delicto, and the other was sent to the Civil Police Station,” the Federal Police reported.

The goods were taken to the Federal Revenue Service.
