According to publications, a tourist was detained after being caught in an irregular situation inside the National Park Iguazu. The man, who had entered without paying for a ticket, was carrying a pet cat.
One of the sources consulted, the newspaper The Territory, heard representatives from the Argentine National Parks Administration (APN) and the forest ranger corps.
According to the guards, the man, who tried to avoid the approach, was seen on one of the scenic trails of the Falls. “He was shouting that he was Argentine and had the right to be there with his cat,” said one of the witnesses interviewed by the newspaper.
Domestic animals in parks in Argentina
However, pets are prohibited from entering Argentina's national parks.
The main reason for this is the risk that species such as dogs and cats may transmit diseases to wildlife. Furthermore, in the case of dogs, barking tends to scare away other species that feel threatened.
For those traveling with pets, the Iguazú Argentina concessionaire provides a space to shelter dogs and cats. The structure, which is free to use, is located in the Cataratas Area Visitor Center.
Got in without paying for admission
The other infraction committed by the individual was entering the park without paying for admission. Contrary to what he claimed, even visitors of Argentine nationality are required to pay.
Total exemption exists, but it only applies to residents of Puerto Iguazú and categories such as children up to 5 years old, retirees, pensioners, people with disabilities, tour guides, excursion leaders, veterans of the Falklands War and guests.
Editor's note: Most exemptions are only valid for people of Argentine nationality or legal residents in the country. To find out more, visit the park's official website, click here.
The man's identity was not released by the authorities. He was detained by police officers and taken to the police station in the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazú to register the incident.
Good afternoon!
I am Brazilian, I live in the state of Minas Gerais.
I am a pensioner..
Do I have to pay to enter the Argentine Falls park?
Yes, Lucineia, because she is classified as a foreigner.
It says on the official website of the Argentine park:
Retired and Pensioned corresponds only to retired and/or retired people with Argentine National Identity Document (native or by choice) living in the country.
It was worse for the cat, who ended up going to the police station, for reasons of his owner, how annoying…
Everything is expensive in Argentina, a robot costs 4 thousand pesos, a bottle of water costs almost 20 reais, to get in it costs 45 thousand pesos, almost 250 reais, you have to walk a lot, not to mention the tourist tax for walking on the street, I will never go to that shitty Argentina again.
Just don't go.
