This year, Hackatour Cataratas brought the theme “Fullturista – Technology and Hyperconnected Artificial Intelligence”. According to the regulations, the members of the participating teams had 48 hours to create solutions and innovations aimed at the tourism sector.

To this end, they had the support of a team of mentors specialized in areas such as technology, data, creativity and tourism.

The winning project of the Cataratas Hackatour, called Waypont, consists of a bracelet that allows visitors to be tracked in remote locations with little connectivity.

Three students proposed the innovation: Gabriel Hochmann Alves and Hasan Asaad, from Foz do Iguaçu, and Guilherme Teixeira Nunes Pereira, from Santa Helena.

“The idea is that people/visitors wear a bracelet, and that they install checkpoints at strategic points of the location”, explained the winners of the Hackatour.

“This bracelet communicates with long-range transmitters, without the need for internet or cables, allowing the manager to control the flow of people. It is a way to prevent visitors from getting lost on trails, for example,” they add.

Cataratas Hackatour Awards

In addition to the overall winner, who took home R$5, Hackatour Cataratas also awarded prizes to second (R$3) and third (R$2) place winners.

The teams will also have the opportunity to improve their projects with mentoring from Sebrae and Itaipu Parquetec, as well as to participate in the Technological Arena of the 20th FIT Cataratas, between June 4th and 6th.

Organized by the Institute for Tourism Development and Strategic Projects (Idestur), the Hackatour has a number of supporters. Unioeste, Sebrae, Itaipu Parquetec and Itaipu Binacional are collaborating on the event.

Iguaçu Fund, Araucária Foundation and the Government of Paraná act as sponsors of the Cataratas Hackatour.

The list of partners also includes institutions such as UFPR, IFPR, UTFPR and Iguassu Valley. In addition, Grupo Cataratas, Descomplica + UniAmérica, Aquafoz and the City Hall of Foz do Iguaçu also contribute as strategic partners.
