“There’s so much to see. Visit the thorny Chaco forest (with jaguars and giant anteaters roaming around) or go to picturesque villages and impressive waterfalls. Don’t miss the eclectic architecture of the charming capital, Asunción,” he adds.

As highlights of a visit to the country, Lonely Planet cites the golden sand beaches of Carmen del Paraná, on the banks of the Paraná River; a trip to the Paraguayan Pantanal, aboard the floating hotel Siete Cabrillas; and the experience of watching a classic between Paraguay's two most popular football teams, Olimpia and Cerro Porteño.

Curitiba

The only Brazilian destination on Lonely Planet's list for next year is the capital of Paraná, Curitiba, praised for its tour options in places such as parks and museums, as well as routes such as the train line that goes down the Serra do Mar to Morretes.

“Curitiba is an example of CASE "This is a successful tourist destination. All the credit goes to Curitiba, a planned, ecological, intelligent city with hundreds of attractions for tourists, such as its more than 50 parks and forests, cultural facilities of international relevance", says the Secretary of Tourism of Paraná, Márcio Nunes, quoted by the State News Agency (AEN).
