Most arrived at the enclosure after shelter and rescue operations. Some were born after hatching from eggs seized by the Federal Police (PF) at Foz do Iguaçu International Airport in 2023.

Free, the toucans are free to fly from one side to the other. Visitors can observe and admire the beauty of the birds up close, whose striking colors stand out amidst the greenery.

Parque das Aves is a reference in the treatment of toucans

The World of Toucans is a long-standing dream of Parque das Aves, which celebrated its third anniversary in 2024. The history of the enclosure is linked to that of the toucans that live there.

Founder of Parque das Aves, Anna Croukamp says the park has 30 years of experience with toucans. “We created a nursery where they will always be healthy and happy.”

Technical Director of Parque das Aves, Paloma Bosso, highlights the importance of the species – one of the most trafficked – for the environment. “The idea we want to convey is to admire these animals and also preserve them,” she emphasizes.

In 2024, Parque das Aves became a Wildlife Support Center, as it receives many animals that are victims of human actions, including run-overs, fires and trafficking.

In the aviary, the toucans have access to branches to rest on, drinking fountains with running water and a diet of rich native vegetation.

Construction work on the World of Tucanos began in August last year and ended in early January. The aviary is 12 meters high, 15,5 meters wide and 40 meters long.

The internal trail, which is over 2,6 meters wide, is suspended, ensuring the health and safety of the animals and accessibility for visitors.

The result of the efforts of a team of 260 employees at Parque das Aves, Mundo dos Tucanos was designed by Anna Croukamp, who created the first sketch of the space based on scientific data.
