In the document, dated October 29, Filippa informs that “as of December 1 of this year, the Bilateral Agreement on Inbound Transport between the municipalities of Puerto Iguazú and Foz do Iguaçu, of 2019, will be ineffective, based on the current legislation of Municipal Decree No. 74/87, of 1984, on travel and tourism companies”.

This agreement allows, for example, tourist reception companies in Foz do Iguaçu and Puerto Iguazú to transport tourists from one side of the border to the other, defining rules such as the necessary documentation, the mandatory passenger list and description of the service provided, and establishing some prohibitions.

The restrictions establish, for example, that tourist vehicles with Argentine license plates cannot board passengers at the airport or bus station in Foz do Iguaçu, and that Brazilian tourist vehicles are prohibited from doing the same in Puerto Iguazú.

The agreement also defines the application of penalties, such as fines for the first and second infractions and seizure for the third occurrence.

The document was signed on December 20, 2018, and came into effect in 2019, by the mayor of Foz do Iguaçu, Chico Brasileiro; by the then superintendent of the Foz do Iguaçu Traffic Institute (Foztrans), Fernando Maraninchi; and by the then municipal secretary of Tourism, Gilmar Piolla.

On the Argentine side, the agreement was signed by the mayor of Puerto Iguazú, Claudio Filippa; the director of Traffic of Puerto Iguazú, Nicolás López; and the president of the Municipal Tourism Authority (Iturem), Leopoldo Lucas.

À Radio Yguazu, representatives of tourism in Puerto Iguazú said they were unaware of the reasons for the suspension of the agreement, stating that they only became aware of the existence of the document after exchanging messages with Brazilian colleagues.

“The truth is that I can’t say anything, we are completely uninformed about this issue,” said a leader of the Puerto Iguazú Gastronomic and Hotel Association (AGHAI). “We found out about it from the Brazilians, who sent us a copy of the mayor’s decision. We here in Iguazú have no knowledge of its scope.”

The city government of Puerto Iguazú has not yet released any public explanations on the issue, which will be analyzed by bodies such as Comtur, in Foz do Iguaçu, to avoid any disruption to inbound tourism operators in the region during the high season.

Argentina voted for a psychopath as president, and by the looks of it, this mayor must be the same. It's not enough to keep raising taxes to get into Argentina's park, the imbecile makes tourism difficult. The ones who will suffer are the workers who make a living from tourism. Congratulations to those who helped put these people in power.

The same should be done on the border between Chile and Argentina, where upon arriving at the border, you change drivers, cars and tour guides.
This way they keep their commissions in wonderful pesos, we Brazilians would keep the commissions of all the tourists who come to Brazil, it would be wonderful, no list, no waiting, everything exchanged at customs ✌️👍😎

Congratulations to Miley who took Argentina when it was broken and is now fixing it.
It's a shame that here in Brazil it's the opposite, the PT took over the government in the positive and after two years it's already gone bankrupt.
Argentina is right to protect its workers, learn to vote here in Brazil to have this type of protection.
