In 2024 alone, the sector received 1.124 items, an average of three per day. Of this total, according to the dealership, around 200 were returned to their owners, representing a percentage of less than 20%.
The airport administrator informs that the materials found are handed over to a service agent or supervisor for initial screening. They are then recorded and stored for a period of up to 90 days.
“We record essential information, such as the date, time and place where it was found, which can help identify the belonging,” explains the terminal manager, Wander Melo Junior.
If the owner does not live in Foz do Iguaçu to recover the object, a third party may collect the lost item at the airport. In this case, the protocol requires sending a e-mail to lostseachados.igu@grupoccr.com.br containing the authorization.
Objects left behind at the airport
The list of most forgotten items includes personal documents, cards, accessories (watches, earrings, bracelets and hats) and bottles, as well as neck pillows, toys and bags with products purchased at the airport itself.
Higher value electronic objects, such as cell phones and laptops, also often end up in the lost and found department.
As for the unusual items found at the airport, the dealership mentions beach umbrellas, walking sticks, baby strollers and even a wheelchair.
“Many people end up leaving behind some accessory or document when they go through the X-ray machine. The same happens with clothes, luggage and electronics in the departure lounges, as well as in the bathrooms, where medicines are mainly forgotten,” explains the manager.
Destination of found objects
Medication and food left at the terminal will be immediately discarded. Documents not collected within the deadline will be shredded.
Other items are donated to charitable institutions, such as APAE in Foz do Iguaçu. Last year, according to CCR, the organization received around 1,5 items, including suitcases, bottles, clothes and shoes.
