Every year, in autumn and winter, there are tree species that lose practically all their leaves, leaving their branches exposed.

In biology, these trees are classified as deciduous or deciduous. On the other hand, those that keep their leaves all year round are classified as evergreen or perennial.
But why do leaves fall?
In the new edition of the É da Vida segment, environmentalist Francisco Amarilla shows a floor covered in leaves in Vila A, in Foz do Iguaçu, and explains the reasons. According to Amarilla, it is all part of a survival strategy adopted by many trees.
“Why do leaves fall? Because leaves consume a lot of energy. In certain species, the trunk needs a lot of energy during cold weather. So, the trunk releases the leaves, which fall to the ground so that the energy is only available to the trunk,” he points out.
In the video, Amarilla displays a specimen of the beach almond tree (Terminalia catappa), a species found in several neighborhoods of Foz do Iguaçu. In other regions of Brazil, the plant is known by names such as walnut tree, chestnut tree, black heart and seven-cups.
performed by H2FOZ, the É da Vida program has the support of partners such as Bird Park. In June, two more supporters joined the team: the agency Let's Go Travel Iguassu and the experience Iguassu By Bike.
