The digital certificate will be valid from this Monday (25) at the country's ports and airports.
Following the trend of countries such as Australia, South Korea and New Zealand, Argentina announced that it will retire, as of this Monday (25), the act of stamping passports in entry and exit procedures from the country. The registration will be replaced by a 100% digital certificate.
Implementation will begin at ports and airports, where the percentage of travelers who present their passport as identification is highest. At land borders, such as the Tancredo Neves Bridge between Puerto Iguazú and Foz do Iguaçu, the process should be completed in the coming months.
“Starting on Monday, we will begin to phase out the stamps on passports,” confirmed Florencia Carignano, head of the National Directorate of Migration, quoted by the agency. Telam. “It is a modernization measure, which is in line with what countries with the best technology are doing.”
Eduardo Wado de Pedro, Minister of the Interior, highlighted that digitalization “speeds up the process when entering or leaving the country for immigration purposes”. In a video published on social media, the minister emphasized that the digital certificate “is simpler, contributes to the ‘de-papering’ of the State and minimizes costs”.
In the future, new digitalization initiatives will be implemented by Argentine authorities. “We want people to spend less time at the Immigration counter, with fewer lines,” said Director Carignano, referring to tools such as filling out forms in advance and installing automated terminals.
To avoid problems in proving legal entry into Argentine territory, the traveler will receive, by e-mail, a QR code containing information about the migration registration. Another option is to make the query on the page of National Directorate of Migration, providing personal data and passport number.
